Rolls-Royce Phantom Marks 100 Years with Global Events
According to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, 2025 marked 100 years of Phantom through global events, Bespoke commissions and a limited Centenary Private Collection. Read the full story.
Throughout 2025, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars turned the centenary of Phantom into a year-long reflection on its most iconic model. The anniversary became more than a milestone, offering an opportunity to revisit a century in which Phantom has continuously mirrored its time, shaped by the ambitions, tastes, and cultural influence of its owners.
First introduced in 1925, Phantom has evolved through eight generations while remaining the pinnacle of the Rolls-Royce portfolio. During the centenary year, all eight generations appeared at commemorative events across five continents, from prestigious concours d’elegance to cultural gatherings that underlined Phantom’s role far beyond the automotive world.
The centrepiece of the celebrations was the debut of the Phantom Centenary Private Collection, limited to just 25 motor cars. Rolls-Royce describes it as the most complex and technologically ambitious Private Collection it has ever created. Through intricate marquetry, embroidery, layered decorative techniques and bespoke artistry, each car interprets defining stories from Phantom’s first 100 years, effectively transforming the collection into a rolling historical archive.
Alongside this, clients around the world took delivery of highly individualised Phantom commissions, many of which had been planned years in advance with the centenary in mind. Every Phantom hand-crafted at Goodwood during 2025 was completed with a special commemorative chassis plaque, marking its place within the model’s century-long narrative.
Cultural heritage formed another key strand of the centenary programme. Rolls-Royce revisited Phantom’s long-standing connections to music and art, acknowledging both documented histories and enduring legends that have surrounded the model for decades. Some of these stories were reinterpreted through symbolic installations and curated moments, reinforcing how Phantom has become embedded in wider cultural memory.
The anniversary year also looked firmly toward the future. At the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, work continued on a major site expansion dedicated to enhancing Bespoke capabilities. In this context, Phantom remains the marque’s primary creative canvas, where new materials, techniques, and forms of personal expression are first explored.
Rather than closing a chapter, Phantom’s centenary marks a transition into its next era. As Rolls-Royce positions the model for the decades ahead, Phantom’s story continues to be written at the intersection of heritage, individual patronage, and the enduring value of craftsmanship—elements that appear set to define its second century as clearly as its first.
