Opel SUV Trio Earns International Awards Across Key Markets
Reported by Opel, the Mokka GSE, Grandland and Frontera received major international awards in 2025. Learn which technologies and models were recognized.
For Opel, 2025 marked a year of strong international recognition, as the brand’s renewed SUV line-up — the Mokka GSE, Grandland and Frontera — collected a series of prestigious awards across key European markets. Industry juries highlighted different strengths within the range, from performance and engineering to advanced lighting technology and everyday value.
The central highlight of the year was the success of the Opel Mokka GSE, which claimed the Golden Steering Wheel 2025 title in the small car category. The award underlined Opel’s confidence in combining a sporty character with full electrification. Positioned as the fastest all-electric production Opel to date, the Mokka GSE delivers rapid acceleration, reaching 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and a top speed of 200 km/h. Technical solutions derived from the Mokka GSE Rally prototype reinforce the model’s ambition to translate motorsport-inspired dynamics into a road-going electric vehicle.
The Opel Grandland continued its winning streak throughout 2025, adding further accolades to its record. The SUV received the DVN Award for its Intelli-Lux HD lighting system, recognised for its high-resolution light distribution and adaptive response to changing road conditions. At the same time, Grandland strengthened its position in the UK, where it was named Best EV Medium SUV at the Great British Fleet Awards and later Medium Car of the Year at the Company Car & Van Awards. Particular attention has been drawn to the Grandland Electric Long Range, offering a driving range of up to 694 kilometres (WLTP), which significantly enhances the model’s long-distance usability.
The third pillar of the trio, the Opel Frontera, focuses on accessibility and family-oriented practicality. In 2025, it was honoured as Value Car of the Year at the News UK Motor Awards. Judges highlighted its balance of price, interior space and electrified powertrains, positioning Frontera as a key element in Opel’s strategy to make electrified mobility more attainable for a broader audience.
Taken together, these awards suggest that Opel’s SUV strategy is not built around isolated successes but rather a coherent range addressing diverse customer needs. By combining electric performance, advanced technology and practical value, the brand appears well positioned to carry this momentum into 2026.
