Polo Edition 50 marks Volkswagen’s 50th anniversary of the iconic model

Volkswagen unveils Polo Edition 50 to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary with enhanced features and exclusive design. Pre-sales begin in Germany.
Volkswagen is marking 50 years of the Polo with the release of a special edition: the Polo Edition 50. Far from being a nostalgic throwback, this model is a technically enhanced version of the Style trim, reworked with thoughtful design details and an extensive standard equipment package.
The Edition 50 will be available in three versions: a 70 kW (95 PS) engine with manual transmission, the same powertrain with a 7-speed DSG, and a stronger 85 kW (116 PS) DSG configuration. The starting price in Germany is €28,200, with pre-sales beginning on June 12.
On the outside, the car features 16-inch 'Coventry' alloy wheels (with optional 17-inch 'Torosa'), dark-tinted rear windows, and a distinctive '50' badge on the B-pillar. Inside, the Edition 50 branding appears on the door sills and steering wheel, complemented by a gloss-black dashboard panel and a black headliner for a more premium feel.
The standard features are generous: heated sport seats, a multifunction leather steering wheel, chrome-finished pedals, ambient lighting, and an array of assistance systems including Park Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Side Assist, and a proactive occupant protection system. The Discover Media infotainment system includes navigation, streaming services, and internet access. Opting for the Plus package adds a panoramic sunroof, two-zone automatic air conditioning, and the Keyless Access system.
Since its debut in 1975, the Polo has evolved from a basic supermini to a well-equipped urban car. In 2024 alone, over 130,000 units built in South Africa were exported to Europe and Asia-Pacific. While the Edition 50 is initially targeted at the German market, its appeal is likely to reach beyond national borders, given the Polo’s enduring popularity. This isn’t just a commemorative trim — it’s a showcase of the modern Polo, enriched with history and built for the road ahead.
